Dr. Isabelle Lanser (she/her)

I am a licensed clinical psychologist in California (PSY 34413). My approach to therapy is active, empowering, and collaborative. Most often my clients are navigating anxiety, depression, eating disorders, cannabis use, and perinatal mental health. I work with couples and individuals who are looking to break out of the patterns that are keeping them stuck and build deeper emotional connections to enrich their lives.

I use Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) to question beliefs that may no longer be serving my clients, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to clarify values and build an inner compass, and Radically Open Dialectic Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT) to disentangle clients from patterns of perfectionism and over control to live more openly and freely.

I received my B.A. from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and my M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). Throughout graduate school, I trained extensively in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and psychodynamic therapy at the UCLA Psychology Clinic and the UCLA Screening and Treatment for Anxiety & Depression (STAND) Clinic. I completed my APA-accredited predoctoral internship at UCLA Counseling and Psychological Services where I specialized in short-term, evidence-based treatments for students with unipolar and bipolar depression, anxiety, eating disorders, grief/loss, cannabis use disorder, and traumatic disorders. I completed my postdoctoral training at the UCLA Anxiety and Depression Research Center and worked as a clinician under the supervision of Dr. Danielle Keenan-Miller to further develop my expertise in treating eating disorders and unipolar and bipolar depression. Through my work on the UCLA Depression Grand Challenge Perinatal Depression research study, I developed an expertise in reproductive mental health and perinatal and postpartum mood and anxiety disorders.

I have conducted and published research on loneliness in young adults and am currently working with the UCLA Depression Grand Challenge to improve how we study and treat depressive disorders. Additionally, I am a firm believer in integrating the latest advances in research throughout my clinical practice and have recently published in the fields of cannabis use disorder treatment and mindfulness-based approaches to stress and depressive symptoms in adolescents.

I strive to create a safe and supportive environment that celebrates and respects all identities and backgrounds. I believe that through authenticity, openness, and compassion, we can work together to face life's challenges and embrace its endless possibilities.
